How To Reach

The most convenient way to reach Ladakh is by air. The capital Leh is serviced by three major airlines – most offering 1-hour daily flights from Delhi and also Srinagar, Jammu. If you prefer a more adventurous approach you can arrive via one of two overland routes. The 1st approach begins at Srinagar (Kashmir) through over night in Kargil. Which is usually open from May to November. Its 430 Km takes you over Zojila pass and Fotula (4080 mtrs) the highest pass between Srinagar – Leh highway including numerous villages en route.

The 2nd route via Manali (Himachal) is available between May to late September. Spanning across 470 Km, it takes you over several high passes including one of the higest road passes in the world, the Taklang-La at (5230 mtrs) about 17500 ft.

Both the land routes are easily accessible by car or Bus.

Temperature and weather condition

Most of Ladakh falls above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) and the capital Leh is at 3,500 meters (11,500 feet). The summers are hot and the winters cold, with temperatures sometimes reach about 30oC in summer and dropping as low as -25oC in winter. So, you need to bring appropriate clothing for a range of conditions, because with global climate change, one can experience the occasional cool day even in summer. Please free to contact us if you need advice on what to bring. And remember, you can also buy extra clothing in Leh if need be.

Tips for a healthy and comfortable stay in Ladakh

Leh is situated at an elevation where the effects of altitude can be felt. Altitude or Mountain sickness is unpredictable – it can affect young and old, fit or not. Most symptoms are mild (tiredness, shortness of breath, mild headaches) and do not last, acute problems are very rare, and in such cases Leh’s hospitals are well equipped to deal with such emergencies. The way to reduce even the mild effects of altitude, is to rest the first 1 or 2 days in the Hotel grounds, (specially arriving Leh direct by air) and to drink lots of water (at least 3 litres per day). After that you can explore Leh and its surroundings. The Hotel staff are always available to provide you with advice and other help to make your transition to high altitude problem-free.
